The Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time academic position at the Associate Professor level, or higher, for a behavioural or social scientist with strong interests in population health and/or health care, and undergraduate education. This position offers an excellent opportunity to sustain an independent research program and develop collaborative interactions within a multidisciplinary research environment of the Department of Community Health Sciences, the Centre for Health and Policy Studies, and the Faculties of Medicine, Social Sciences and other health sciences.
Duties include Program Director for the Health and Society Major, O’Brien Centre for the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc). The BHSc draws on leading health researchers to train undergraduate students in a research-intensive environment. The BHSc is underpinned by a series of inquiry courses designed to develop core problem-solving and communication skills while studying health-related issues. As a faculty member, this role includes teaching and student supervision, with up to 50% of time protected for research.
Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent, with additional training or experience in health research and education.
The Department of Community Health Sciences is part of the rapidly growing Faculty of Medicine, which is in the process of building a major new research facility. Calgary is a vibrant, multicultural city (population 1,000,000) near the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park and Lake Louise.
