New Interim Executive Director for CSIH
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CSIH is pleased to announce that Janet Hatcher-Roberts has been hired on a 
temporary basis to act as Interim Executive Director following the departure 
of Charles Shields.  Chuck left CSIH in November to serve as Executive 
Director of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.

For those of you who do not know her, Janet has extensive experience in the 
area of health research and policy development.  In the last five years, her 
focus has been in the health and development area with her work at the 
International Development Research Centre, and as Co-Director of the WHO 
Collaborating  Centre for Health Technology Assessment.  Janet is also an 
Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.  She holds a bachelor's 
degree in Anthropology from Trent University and a Master's Degree in 
Community Health and Epidemiology from Queen's University.  Janet is also a 
registered nurse. 

Please feel free to contact Janet at the Society office at (613) 241-5785, 
ext. 302.  Janet will be working in the office on Tuesdays, Thursdays and 
Fridays.

Meanwhile, the recruitment process for a permanent Executive Director

Nouvelle Directrice Generale Interimaire a la SCSI

La SCSI a le plaisir d'annoncer qu'elle vient d'engager Janet Hatcher-
Roberts comme directrice generale interimaire suite au depart de Charles 
Shields. Chuck a quitte la Societe en novembre pour devenir directeur 
general de la Societe canadienne de cardiologie.

Janet detient une vaste experience en recherche sur la sante et en 
elaboration de politiques. Au cours des cinq dernieres annees, elle s'est 
concentree sur la sante et le developpement dans le cadre de son travail 
pour le Centre de recherches pour le developpement international, et elle a 
occupe le poste de co-directrice du Centre de collaboration pour 
l'evaluation des technologies de la sante de l'OMS. Janet est aussi chargee 
de cours e l'Universite d'Ottawa. 

Elle possede un baccalaureat en anthropologie de l'Universite Trent et une 
maitrise en sante communautaire et epidemiologie de l'Universite Queen's. 
Elle est aussi infirmiere.

Ministry of Health of Cambodia Seeks Senior AIDS Program Advisor
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications are sought for a long term international consultant
position to assist the Royal Government of Cambodia in implementing
the National Aids Program under the World Bank assisted Cambodia Disease 
Control and Health Development Project.  The position is for a period of two 
years.  The applicant should possess a medical or advance public health 
qualification and have at least 10 years of experience working in public 
health, preferably in Asia. 

Experience should include: program planning and management with at least two 
years of work experience with HIV/AIDS.  Superior interpersonal skills are 
required.  The person will be based in Phnom Penh and will be responsible to 
the Director, National AIDS Program.  Responsibilities:  advising 
implementation of the World Bank assistance for the AIDS program; assisting 
with training activities, surveys and studies; identifying needs for 
technical assistance, management of financial inputs to National AIDS 
Program, NGO Grant Program and evaluation.  Interested candidates may submit

Call for Papers - Workshop "Medicine and the Internet - How to Evaluate"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To be held in Bonn, Germany on March 27, 1998 by the German Society of 
Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology.  The third workshop of the 
German Internet Working Group focuses on "Evaluation of Medical Internet 
Sites."  The goal of the workshop is to present the current state of art, 
discuss and develop new approaches for the evaluation of medical internet 
sites. This may include:  ground rules for the development of medical 
internet sites; how to select medical internet sites; services for experts 
and laymen; evaluation of the outcome; impact on the patient-physician 
interaction; and future impact on health organizations.  Abstracts on other 
topics are also welcome.  Location: Grosser Hoersaal des Nervenzentrums der
