Opportunity to Work With and Represent CSIH
--------------------------------------------------------
You are interested in policy work, have a particular
interest for health and development in the Americas, and
dispose of some free time: here is a unique opportunity
to get involved in CSIH.

The Canadian Society for International Health is looking
for a member to act as its Policy Advisor for the
Americas. The position entails representing CSIH on
the Americas Policy Group (APG), one of the Canadian
Council for International Cooperation's Regional Policy
Working Group.

THE AMERICAS POLICY GROUP: The APG brings together
NGOs, churches, unions, universities and solidarity
groups from across Canada that have a specific interest
in development issues and social justice in Latin
America and the Caribbean. Its purpose is to improve
the impact of participating groups through collaborative
reflection and analysis, including input from southern
partners, and through the coordination of policy
development and strategies for joint action and
advocacy. The APG meets as a whole three to four times
per year in Ottawa, and has various Sub-Groups, such as:
the Guatemala Group, the Andean Group, the Mexico Group,
the Children's Rights' Group, and the Mining Group.

CSIH AND APG: The Society's participation in APG
(previously the Inter-Agency Working Group on Latin
America - IAWGLA) dates back from 1993 and allows CSIH
to: support the goals and objectives of the APG; gather
information about key development issues in the
Americas; share information about health development and
programming in the Americas, particularly as it relates
to the work of the Pan American Organization (PAHO),
CIDA, IDRC and Health Canada; promote the integration of
health as an important issue in the APG's discussions
and strategies for policy development, dialogue and
advocacy with Government; explore opportunities for
enhancing the capacity of APG members to develop health
projects and/or integrate a health component to their
projects; facilitate the development of linkages between
Canadian and Latin American/Caribbean NGOs involved in
health development.

REQUIREMENTS: Be a Society member; Availability to
attend the APGs' meetings and to participate as
appropriate in the Group's activities; Willingness to
write-up a short report with recommendations after each
APG meeting; General knowledge of health and human
development issues in the Americas; Skills, experience
and interest in policy development and advocacy;
Familiarity with the Canadian NGO community and donor
agencies; Willingness to provide advice and support to
CSIH as it relates to its work in the Americas.

Interested members are to contact Marc Hyndman, Senior
Program Manager, by phone (613-241-5785 ext. 304) or
