I think it's a Day by Day misprint, Scott.  "1410" should be #14, Tenth St.

In NYC, East/West streets start numbering from Fifth Avenue, heading either west or east.  Twain lived at #14, West 10th St, just off Fifth Ave.  If he crossed the avenue, he would be on the east side, and would walk past #14 East 10th St.  --skh

Subject: New York City Address in 1900

There are several Day By Day entries indicating Twain writing from 1410
W. 10th Street.  The first entry following Twain's residency at the
Earlington has an address of 14 W. 10th Street. This address seems to
make more sense than does the 1410 address, which is near Gravesend
(according to Google Earth).  Any thoughts on this?
