Hello,

I was excited to see that the Cuban Pharmaco-Epidemiology Centre is
actively seeking contacts...I had to write a quick note of support! I met
one of their local members in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1996 while doing some
research in Family Medicine. Cuba has suffered severe shortages of many
medications over the last five years and this centre is yet another
example of some of the unique ways Cuba manages to overcome adversity. In
Las Tunas I got to see the first programmes from the centre at work and
they had done a lot to improve distribution to the most needy and chronic
patients -- after only a few months. It would be fascinating to see what
they have achieved since then.

I would encourage anyone interested in pharmaceuticals distribution in
developing countries, or Cuba's efforts to maintain its universal
health-care system to get more information and make contact with the Cuban
Pharmaco-Epidemiology Centre.
