Hello CLICK4HPers,

Sam Lanfranco, one of CLICK4HP's list-owners just posted a message on
how to handle double messages. Sam handles more than 30 email
discussion lists, so his commands mixed up the name of this list with
one of the many others that he manages - CANCHID. Please take all
references to CANCHID and replace them with CLICK4HP and you will have
the right commands.

It was a good reminder that it has been much too long since there has
been some general guides on this list for handling Digest, Unsubscribe
and Review commands - and Who to Contact for Help! There are now 483
subscribers to this list - 125 more than there were when we last posted
any guides to this list!

Below is a copy of a general posting on "How-To work with Your Email
List Subscription" that we posted in March 1997. An addition to note is
that we now have a web-site for CLICK4HP where you can readily access
the archives, edited collections of select discussions and contact the
list owners http://www.opc.on.ca/click4hp/c4hpflyr.htm.

frequently requested by participants. We suggest that you print this

How to Send a message to the list:

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list,
just send mail to [log in to unmask] This is called "sending mail to
the list", because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV
makes copies for all the people who have subscribed.
This address <[log in to unmask]> is also called the "list address".

Sending a command to the list address meant for messages will not work.
All commands must be sent to the "LISTSERV address" which is
[log in to unmask]

How to get the list in DIGEST format:

Click4hp is available in digest form. This means you get one message a
day with all the postings to the list instead of individual messages. If
you wish to receive the digested version of the postings, send email
to [log in to unmask] with the following message in the text of your
message: SET CLICK4HP DIGEST

How to get a list of subscribers:

Please note that it is presently possible for anybody to determine
that you are signed up to the list through the use of the "REVIEW"
command, which returns the e-mail address and name of all the
subscribers.

If you want to see the list of all the subscribers you send a command
to [log in to unmask] and leaving the subject line blank, type in thebody
of the message:
REVIEW CLICK4HP.
About 10 minutes later or less you should receive the file of current
subscribers.

If you do not want your name to be visible, just issue a SET CLICK4HP
CONCEAL command.

How to read old archived messages:

*** FOR EASY ACCESS TO THE ARCHIVES GO TO THE CLICK4HP homepage
http://www.opc.on.ca/click4hp/c4hpflyr.htm

Or direct access by
1. The URL to see the CLICK4HP Public Folders
http://community.opc.on.ca/Exchange/ Please note that there is no www
and that there is a directory called /Exchange in the name. These are
visible to anyone on the net with the right browser or newsreader. These
folders can be seen through a JAVA enabled
browser, that is Navigator 2.2 or better or Internet Explorer 3.0 or
better.

 2. These same folders are visible to newsreader software. The news
server is called community.opc.on.ca; this type of software has the
ability to get newsgroups and to subscribe to them. The folders appear
under the hierarchy community-news. Another quick
way to access them through the newsreaders built into the recent
versions of Navigator and Explorer is to type the following URLs into
the location area of the browser.
 news://community.opc.on.ca/community-news.click4hp

More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the LISTSERV
reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an INFO REFCARD
command to [log in to unmask]

When problems or long silences occur:

You can use SET CLICK4HP NOMAIL and SET CLICK4HP MAIL, again to
[log in to unmask] when you have to be away from your account for
extended periods.

Remember that you can use REVIEW CLICK4HP to get the subscriber
list to see if you have been deleted following a long lull in CLICK4HP
postings to your mailbox. The rapid growth of use of the internet is
showing up as more delays in delivering mail through electronic
gate-ways and to keep the work load managable we will be deleting people
whose accounts reject mail for long periods of time.

LASTLY, there are accounts which send error messages even
though the mail is getting through. This has to do either with the
network at your end, or some particular gateway between here and there.
If you are receiving CLICK4HP and get a notice that one of us have
UNSUBSCRIBED you DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A SIGN THAT THE THOUGHT POLICE ARE
AT WORK. Just RESUBSCRIBE with

                 SUBSCRIBE CLICK4HP your-ordinary-name

to [log in to unmask], or send us <[log in to unmask]> or
<[log in to unmask]> email to find out what is going on.

There's also great information on being a list participant and managing
a list to be found at the following internet sites:

We hope these tips and suggestions will help all subscribers of
CLICK4HP. Keep those messages coming!
