Donna,

I would suggest that any "mass mailing" - whether to health care providers
or others - should be developed, implemented and evaluated using standard
marketing-communication principles and practices. In other words, start with
an understanding of your audience including what information they need, how
they like to access it (it might not be by mass mailing but by something
else like e-mail, the web, workshops, etc.), how they will use it, whether
they will pass it on to others, etc. You might also find that your mass
market is not a mass market at all, but a number of sub-markets (or
segments) with different needs.

If you would like more information on the marketing-communication process,
there are many references out there, or please feel free to e-mail me
directly if you would like to talk about this some more.

Subject: MASS-MAILINGS: Best Practices/effectiveness

Hello Colleagues,

I am interested in any literature that oulines best practices of mass
mailing health promotion material to health care providers in the
community.

Should packages be focused on one topic, how many inserts, how glossy??? I
am searching for concrete best practices in other health depts., agencies,
institutions etc.

Has this intervention of mass-mailing been evaluated lately?? Thank you.
