Contract Opportunity - The Health Communication Unit at the
Centre for Health  Promotion, University of Toronto, Ontario,
Canada

Background

The Health Communication Unit, at the Centre for Health
Promotion, is seeking a Consultant(s) on a contract basis. Our
mandate is to provide health promotion practitioners in
Ontario with training and consultation in the areas of health
promotion project planning, health communication, evaluation,
and policy change. More information on THCU can be found on

Tasks

THCU seeks Consultant(s) to:

1) Provide consulting services to our clients in the following
primary areas:
- Health communication, particularly: analyzing and segmenting
audiences, developing an inventory of communication resources,
setting communication objectives, identifying vehicles and
channels, sequencing activities, developing messages,
developing identity, developing and producing materials (e.g.,
print and video)
- Policy change, particularly: engaging stakeholders,
determining appropriate policy initiatives, determining action
strategies for community (and others’) support, using media
for advocacy

2) Provide consulting services to our clients in the following
secondary areas (expertise in these areas an asset, but not
required):
- health promotion project planning and
- evaluation

3) Deliver workshops in the above areas, particularly health
communication and policy change

4) Travel throughout Ontario, with occasional one to two night
stays, to provide the above services

5) Contribute content for THCU publications, e.g., our
newsletter (The Update), website and the Ontario Health
Promotion Email Bulletin

6) Contribute to the development of THCU's services, e.g., by
attending staff meetings and strategic planning sessions

7) Other duties as assigned

 Salary

We are interested in full- and part-time people.  This is a
contract position, paid based on a per diem rate and without
benefits.  Current funding is secured to the end of the fiscal
year (March 31, 1999) with a good possibility of renewal in
1999/2000.

Requirements

Those interested are asked to apply in writing by September
11, 1998.

Please submit a resume and a cover letter outlining in brief:

a) experience and interest in health promotion issues and
particular audiences (e.g., smoking amongst low income women)

b) relevant skills (e.g., presentation/training/education,
consultation, community facilitation, project management,
literature searches, interviewing, writing, computer)

c) salary expectations and preference for full- or part-time
work

The ability to communicate in both official languages is an
asset.

Only those applicants selected for interviews will be
contacted, and resumes may be retained for future short-term
contract assignments (e.g., one or two days). Work samples
can be submitted and will be returned if requested.
