Which healing therapies do patients consider to be "alternative?" How
frequently do patients use these therapies? Are professional health
care providers routinely gathering relevant information about patients'
use of "alternative medicine?"
I am a 3rd year resident in West Penn Hospital's Family Practice program
(Pittsburgh, PA) I am trying to answer these questions for my senior
research project. I have developed an interactive web site that asks
patients and providers these important questions and allows each person
submitting a survey form to see an instantaneous summary of the results
of the survey.
The address of my survey of patients is
http://www.linden.sitehosting.net/lane/MedSurvey/
The address of my survey of providers is
http://www.linden.sitehosting.net/lane/MedSurvey/ProviderSurvey/
In an FAQ page, I address the issue that neither survey can be
considered "scientific" as the respondents are all self-selected from
the skewed pool of people I can reach over the Internet. While the
survey results may not smoothly extrapolate to the general public, they
should be somewhat more representative of the "internet public." As a
control, a paper based survey will be conducted at my clinic site.
Eventually, the web-site will be updated so show a comparison of results
obtained off the Internet.
Thank you for your time considering this matter, any direct
participation
or forwarding of these URL links to a receptive audience will be
greatly appreciated.
