Public Presentation on Landmines - "Sweeping Them Up From the Earth"

Presented by Physicians for Global Survival (Canada) on Tuesday, November 18 at 8 pm,  Health Sciences Centre, Rm. 1A6, McMaster University.  Stephen Foster, associate clinical professor, department of surgery, spent 20 years teaching and helping heal landmine victims in Angola, and will share his first-hand experiences about the impact of this horrible weapon on innocent civilians and communities.  Celina Tuttle, activist and researcher with Physicians for Global Survival and Mines Action Canada, helped raise the Canadian consciousness leading up to the "Ottawa Process" to draft the international treaty to ban landmines. Registration for the 4th Canadian Conference on International Health, November 9 - 12, 1997, will be possible on site during the Conference.  CSIH requests that as of today, anyone wishing to register for the Conference do so on site.  Registration forms will be available at the on site registration desk from November 9 - 12, but will no longer be available from the Society office after today. Post Title: Legal Officer; Level: P.4; Post Number: .5975; Issue Date: 29 October 1997; Closing Date: 10 December 1997; Duty Station: Washington, D.C. Tenure: Two years, first year probationary; Division/Program/Office: Legal Affairs (DLA).

Salary Information:  Basic Salary: $48,019 at single rate; Post Adjustment:
$11,092 at single rate.

Minimum Requirements:Education: Law degree from a recognized university; studies in comparative and international law; admission to practice law in a PAHO Member State.  Experience:  Nine years of combined national and international legal experience with emphasis in public international law, contracts, technical cooperation agreements, and comparative law.  Solid experience in the handling of issues related to privileges and immunities of international organizations under national legislation and international law.  Experience in health law, ethics, and human rights within a common law system would be desirable.  Languages: Very good knowledge of English and Spanish.  Working knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.

Salary Information:  Basic Salary: $48,019 at single rate; Post Adjustment:  $22,761 at single rate; Hardship/Mobility: $5,577 at single rate

Minimum Requirements: Education: A postgraduate degree to at least the master's level, in one of the health related sciences with specialized training in nutrition and epidemiology.  An M.D. with specialization in nutrition or a Ph.D in a nutritional science would be an asset.  Experience:
At national level: Seven years of experience in public health nutrition, including experience in the evaluation of applied nutrition projects and experience in program planning and execution. At international level:   Two years of participation in technical cooperation projects and activities related to food and nutrition. Languages: Very good knowledge of English with a working knowledge of Spanish.
