Do you think the Mike Harris pro-business, globalization agenda is fundamentally
out of step with the core values of Ontario and Canada?

If so, please join us for a one-day discussion and planning session:

Building the Alternative to the Corporate Agenda

Saturday, March 28, 1998

9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Innis College Town Hall, north-west corner Sussex and St. George, one block south
of Bloor.

This workshop is the culmination of the series of talks organized by the
Progressive Academic-Activist Collective, titled Public Good or Private Greed?
Building a Democratic Society.

Every day the news media, business and the Mike Harris government tell us there
is no alternative to the new, mean-spirited world of global competition, downsizing,
and reduced public services.

We are a group of academics and activists, representing a wide spectrum of
expertise and social movements, who respectfully disagree. We are working to
develop an alternative vision of values and action, which gives fairness, sharing
and community precedence over efficiency, competitiveness, and downsizing. This
alternative vision of the basic values of Ontario society, economy and government
and related government policies will then be publicized widely during the run-up to
the next Ontario election.

If you are an activist, student, faculty member or citizen concerned with the Harris
government attack on health, education, labour, social justice, women, minorities,
environment or other issues, please join us.

Those participating will include:

Josephine Grey, Low Income Families Together
Mel Watkins, Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto
Ruth Grier, former Minister of Environment and Minister of Health
Andrea Calver, Metro Network for Social Justice

There is no charge for attendance. Coffee and muffins will be provided - please
bring your lunch.

To register, or to receive further information, contact PAAC at (416) 978-1558.
