Dear Mark Twain Forum Members:

There have been a number of new additions to the TwainWeb at

http://web.mit.edu/linguistics/www/forum

1. A whimsical, composite photo on the main page, replaces our stuffy,
formal logo. The image is courtesy of a noted Mark Twain scholar who wishes
to remain anonymous.

 2. A new section of photos from "Mark Twain Days" in Hartford on July
17-18 may be seen in the photo gallery, under "Conferences and gatherings."

Among the photos are views of the restored green space behind the Mark Twain
House (where the parking lot used to be); MT House Executive Director, John
Boyer; Hartford Mayor, Mike Peters; Singer-songwriter-steamboat pilot, John
Hartford; Mark Twain impersonators John Pogson and Ken Richters; and Mark
Twain Forum members, Betsy Cotton and Pegge and Kevin Bochynski. Digital
images courtesy of Betsy Cotton.

Please note that members are encouraged to share photos from Mark Twain
events for inclusion in the gallery. Members are welcome to submit a
personal photo for the members gallery, which can also include a link to
your tasteful personal web site if you wish. Contact Kevin or Taylor for
more information.

3.  A revised edition of  Wesley A. Britton's book/manuscript, _Mark Twain:
Cradle Skeptic_. Many of the revisions reflect input from Mark Twain Forum
members who read and commented on the original version posted under the
category, "Files of interest to Twainians." If you have further comments
about the manuscript, please send them directly to Wes Britton at:

4. Well-known Mark Twain impersonator, McAvoy Layne is now listed in the
"Discounted Mark Twain Products" category. Mr. Layne offers a 50% discount
off performances of "The Ghost of Mark Twain" to Mark Twain Forum members.
Follow the link to McAvoy's web site for details about his show.

Administrative matters and other notes of interest:

A reminder about postings:

When replying to a message, do not quote the full original message in your
reply. Similarly, do not include a long signature file that contains
telephone numbers, quotations, and so on. Long sigs make the Forum logs
unnecessarily large, and require more time and resources to search, print,
and download. An adequate signature contains only your name, e-mail
address, and (if desired) your affiliation.

Short-postings and one-liners, such as "well-said," etc., are best directed
via private e-mail to the person who posted the message instead of the Forum
list.

The diligence of Mark Twain Forum members who bring items of interest to the
attention of the Forum is always appreciated. However, because server space
is limited, please do not quote extensively or re-post news stories that are
available elsewhere. But, please DO tell us about the item by giving a brief
description and furnishing the URL.

Survival Guide revised:

The Survival Guide has been updated and is available for reference through
the TwainWeb.

Please note that the signoff message must go to Listserv, not to Twain-L.

A reminder for Amazon.com shoppers:

Please be sure to visit the TwainWeb bookstore for all of your purchases. In
addition to the numerous Mark Twain titles listed, ordering ANY book
through the Amazon search box in the TwainWeb bookstore will benefit the
Mark Twain Project.

The ordering procedure is the same as if you were at Amazon's parent site.
In order for us to earn commissions for MTP, you must be sure to order from
our TwainWeb link. All commissions received on sales generated at the
bookstore are combined with T-shirt commissions and donated to the Mark
Twain Project.

~~~~~
A limited number of Mark Twain Forum T-shirts are still available. Order
yours before they are gone forever. Visit the TwainWeb for details on how to
order.
And please consider the Mark Twain Project when planning your year-end
donations.  The Mark Twain Project merits our continued support.
With thanks for your support and enthusiasm,
Kevin B.
