Term position of 2 years, with the Medical Services Branch of Health Canada.
The following government organization is responsible for this competitive
process: Health Canada.

SALARY: $59,113 to $66,729 (PM-06).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ontario Regional Headquarters of Medical Services Branch,
Health Canada located at 1547 Merivale Road, Nepean, Ontario, K1A 0L3. The
branch provides health services to First Nations communities on-reserve in
Ontario including community based programs and non-insured health benefits.
Key parts of the regional role also include community medicine and disease
surveillance. The successful candidate will join a professional team who
work in a complex environment that requires focused individuals who are able
to foster and maintain positive and productive relationships with Health
Canada regional offices, colleagues in Health Canada's headquarters office,
counterparts in other departments and First Nations organizations and
community members.



CHALLENGE: We are looking for an energetic, dynamic person with a Covey
style approach to leadership to head a population health unit with the
following program areas: nutrition, community medicine, nursing and health
information systems. The candidate should be willing to travel, able to work
in partnership with community based First Nations organizations.

EDUCATION: SCREENING CRITERIA:
Graduation with a bachelor's degree from a recognized university with
specialization in a health related filed or in business administration.
Preference may be given to individuals who possess a master's degree.



KNOWLEDGE: OTHER SCREENING CRITERIA:
Knowledge: Vast knowledge of leadership style as advocated by Stephen Covey.
Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team in a health setting. The
candidate should have knowledge of First Nation's community life,
organizations, associations and knowledge of self government systems. They
should be aware of the unique features of First Nations, Metis and Inuit
cultures and values; extensive knowledge of national and regional First
Nation's issues; knowledge of trends and developments in health information
systems in Canada and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Preferences will be given to candidates who can speak Ojibway or Cree.
Candidates should also have an excellent understanding of government
bureaucracies, the health determinants framework as well as the impact of
colonial history on Indigenous peoples. Knowledge of self government systems
considered an asset.

The Managerial In-Basket exercise and/or the Managerial Simulation may be
used for this competitive process.

to Medical Services Branch's strategic objective of transfer of control of
health services to First Nations and the Inuit, and be aware that the duties
of this position may at some point become the responsibility of a First
Nation or Inuit organization.
