Call for Articles:

Shelterforce, the journal of Affordable Housing and
Community Building
Strategies, is soliciting articles for a special issue
dedicated to
community organizing:

"Community Organizing: Where have we come from, where are we
headed?"

For this issue, we are soliciting:

1. Article proposals from experienced practitioners, or
academics
working collaboratively with practitioners, on the following
topics:

CDCs and organizing

Faith-based organizing

Labor-community organizing

Community-based electoral organizing

Women and organizing

Identity organizing

consensus organizing

other models?

Proposals or summaries should be no more than 300 words and
should
include a description of the organizing model or issue to be
discussed,
should point to examples of it in practice to be explored in
the
article, and outline the strengths and weaknesses of the
approach.
Proposals are due no later than April 6, 1998 and should be
e-mailed to:

Karen Ceraso

2. Brief (600 words) profiles from practitioners describing
campaigns
waged. These articles should include: (1) the name of the
organization
and the organizing model or approach used (2) a statement of
the issue
(3) a description of the tactics (4) an evaluation of the
outcome.

Because of space limitations, only a limited number of
articles can be
included in this issue. Those articles not accepted may be
included in a
joint COMM-ORG/ Shelterforce on-line collection, or may be
eligible for
consideration in later issues of Shelterforce.

The deadline for receipt of these brief articles/profiles is
April 6.
