messaging. For a report on our recent advocacy efforts, visit our web site

- The Romanow Commission Report--Building on Values: The Future of Health
Care in Canada

a. Physical Activity in the Recently Released Romanow Report:
Chapter 5 ("Primary Health Care and Prevention, pp. 128-134) recognizes the
value of physical activity in preventing chronic disease. Romanow recommends
that the federal government "kick-start" primary health care reform with
$2.5 billion in funding between 2003 and 2005. These funds are to be used
partly for "making Canada a world leader in reducing tobacco use and
obesity."

The report also urges measures to increase physical activity in schools,
support healthier workplaces, and systematically educate Canadians about the
value of physical activity. Visit the commission's web site at
http://www.healthcarecommission.ca/pdf/HCC_Chapter_5.pdf for more
information.

b. Canadian Health Network (CHN) Recognized in Romanow Report:
The Alberta Centre for Active Living (in partnership with the Leisure
Information Network) manages the Active Living Health Centre of the Canadian
Health Network (CHN). CHN is a national, Internet-based service funded by
Health Canada.

We are pleased that the Romanow Commission recognized CHN's commitment to
providing public access to high-quality and reliable sources of
health-related information In Chapter 3, p. 81
(http://www.finalreport.healthcarecommission.ca/pdf/HCC_Chapter_3.pdf), the
report states, "To date, a primary source of health information to Canadians
has been the Canadian Health Network." In the following paragraph the report
recommends that further work to promote health literacy should be built on
the work already done by CHN.
