Irv - in Ontario, several of the newly funded Heart Health projects have
elected to twin their activities as a HH / Cancer Prevention program.
Project identities reflect this as do programs that deal with similar
risk behaviours. In some cases, they have expanded their programs to
address "sun sense". All of these programs are supported by the local
Board of Health as they are the accountable fiscal agent for the
programs.

Also, many health units have breast/cervical/prostate cancer specific
initiatives under the public health umbrella while others support these
via a community coalition (eg. Breat Cancer Awareness Coalition). Many
have undertaken communit-based media campaigns, educational forums and
screening "clinics". One I know of has a dedicated staff person just
for Cancer Prevention as this was determined to be one of the local
heatlh promotion priorities about 2 years ago.

Let me know if you are interested in specific communities and contact
people with respect to any of these.
