Half Time Community Developer/Coordinator Position
Located at the Lower Mainland Nursing Campus, Langara College

Salary: 50% of $48,000-$52,000 (depending on qualifications)

Project Violence Free is seeking a Community Developer/Coordinator.
This position is a half time appointment for one year, with a
possibility of an extension.  Project Violence Free is an action
research project designed to improve the response of agencies within the
legal, social services and health care system, based on the experiences
of women who have used those services.  The primary communities involved
are Burnaby and New Westminster.  The success of Project Violence-Free
will depend on building strong collaborative relationships between the
research team, service agencies and women who use the services, and
among service agencies.  The success of the project will also depend on
the participation of women who would not otherwise be heard.  Thus, the
central role of the community coordinator is two-fold: to foster the
participation of women with diverse experiences, and to foster
relationship building among all participants.  This position will
involve 20 hours of work per week scheduled on a flexible basis.

Job description:
Under the direction of the principal investigator and the chair of
"Women In Action" (Angie Lee), and in consultation with the Research
Coordinator and advisory committee, the Community Developer will
participate as a member of the research team and as a liaison with the
Advisory Committee.  The primary role of the Community Developer will be
to work with community agencies, service agencies and individual women
to develop relationships that will facilitate achieving project and
research objectives.

Specific additional duties will include:
Locating, securing and opening an office within the involved
communities, Completing field notes of the community development process,
including minutes of the Advisory Committee,Completing some interviews if
required
(e.g. if relationships created through community work are essential to the
interviewing process),
Providing follow up and referral as required for women who are
interviewed,Taking a central
role in the change process within the community, Participating in
publication and dissemination activities,
with particular emphasis on the local communities and service agencies.

Qualifications:
Training and experience in community development
Experience working with women who experience abuse, and sensitivity to
their issues
Knowledge of one or more service systems (e.g. social services, justice,
or health care)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience in qualitative research would be an asset
Master's degree in a relevant field would be an asset

Position to commence as soon as possible.

Research Coordinator Position

services.  Qualitative research requires intensive data analysis, and
the active involvement of non-researchers in analysis.  The success of
this project as a scientific endeavor will depend on the timely
completion of data collection and analysis, and the conduct of such
analysis in a collaborative manner.  Thus the role of the Research
Coordinator is to oversee the timely collection of data, collaborative
analysis and report writing.

Job Description:
Under the direction of the principal investigator and the chair of
"Women In Action", and in consultation with the Community Developer, and
advisory committee, the Research Coordinator will participate as a
member of the research team and as a liaison with the Advisory
Committee.  The primary role of the Research Coordinator will be to

principal investigator is responsible for conceptualizing and ensuring
the rigor of the research, the research coordinator will be responsible
for coordinating the actual conduct of the research.  Specific duties
will include:
--Scheduling and arranging interviews
--Scheduling and arranging participant observation opportunities within
agencies
--Insuring informed consent, and confidentiality; and maintaining files
of consent forms
--Completing some interviews if required
--Maintaining field notes regarding the research process, including
minutes of meetings
--Overseeing work of the transcriptionist; insuring confidentiality
--Maintaining secure electronic and paper files of all research
data andanalysis
--Completing literature searches and reviews
--Coordinating and participating in all data analysis
--Writing of reports and participating in other publication and
dissemination activities

Qualifications:
Training and experience in qualitative research, especially ethnographic
field work and data analysis
Knowledge of one or more service systems (e.g. social services, justice,
or health care)
Understanding of the dynamics of violence against women, and sensitivity
to the issues
Experience in supervision and coordination
Demonstrated skill in writing academic and/or lay publications
Excellent interpersonal and public presentation skills
Master's degree in a relevant field would be an asset
Experience working with women who have experienced abuse would be an
asset

Position to commence as soon as possible
