Does anyone on this site work in the field of medical management? If so, I
am interested in how this works in your country.
In the US we call this case management or care management. The theory is
that those individuals who are at risk, are identified early, assessed and
then assisted to the most appropriate setting that is the least restrictive
and treated at the most cost effective price. This concept works most of the
time, but with managed care, it sometimes is difficult with all the rules
and regulations. Also, this field has gown so fast, that training has not
kept up with the need.
Would appreciate any feedback this list has to this concept. This was
initiated out of over spending of healthcare services/providers, now that we
have an aging population and wonderful technology, controls had to be put
into place. Trying to promote wellness and behavior modification is key to
the change, but also assisting those with chronic and catastrophic illnesses
or injuries are also where CM fits in well. Anne Llewellyn, USA
