There is a well established program called 'Just Walk It' which may be able
to provide you with some of the information you are after. ' Just Walk it'
is a community based walking program in Queensland Australia run by the
Queensland Branch of the National Heart Foundation.  There is a website,
that provides an outline of the program : http://www.justwalkit.com.au/.
Volunteer coordinators are provided with resources to run the walking
groups.  When the program was initiated in '94, there were training
programs for volunteer walking leaders, I'm not sure if that is the case
now. Rachel the program manager and is contactable using the email address
on the website, she may be able to help you some more.
