The Laidlaw Foundation and
the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Invite you to a Public Forum on

Building Inclusive Communities:
Cross-Canada Perspectives and Strategies

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Monday, April 28, 2003
Oakham House, Ryerson University, Gould Street, Toronto

The Laidlaw Foundation and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)
have collaborated on organizing 'soundings' in 10 communities across Canada
to determine the conditions and capacities required to build inclusive
communities. These soundings have provided community input into the
development of a discussion paper on a national social infrastructure
strategy for Canada. Participants in that process will present the paper
and the perspectives that emerged, and invite feedback on strategies for
moving forward.

Presenters include:
        * Anver Saloojee, Moderator, Ryerson Politics Department, and
Laidlaw Foundation
        * Peter Clutterbuck, Coordinator, Social Planning Networks of
Ontario; and Marvyn Novick, Social Policy Professor, Ryerson University,
co-authors of the Building Inclusive Communities discussion paper
        * Michael Phair, Edmonton City Councilor; Chair, FCM Standing
Committee on Social Infrastructure
        *       Olivia Chow, Toronto City Councilor;
        *       Jim Green, Vancouver City Councilor (invited);
        * Susan Pigott, CEO, St. Christopher House; Steering Committee
member, Toronto Summit Alliance
        * Other community representatives (to be confirmed)
