There are already many 'low class', or lower socieconomic status
individuals working on issues pertaining to the social determinants
of health...however many are from disciplines outside of health
promotion, or have no education at all, yet still accomplish great
things in improving community health.  As a social worker new to the
field
of health promotion, new to the idea that 'professionals' wouldn't
assume
that health was a structural issue, and an individual from a 'low
class'
background, I think that health promoters and those involved in
population
health need to open their eyes to the skills that other disciplines
and
communities can bring, including social work and those involved in
community development.  It's less about education and more about who
cares
and with the appropriate resources can provide us with their skills.
The
work is being done...just without the support of major health and or
formal organizations.
