Be that as it may:

_The Momentous Question_ was written by John Swinton, not William. It was
first published in 1894 as _Striking for Life_ (says GLADIS). Neither
Swinton, nor neither title, appears in Gribben. (Some sentences just won't
get written!)

There's nothing under the name Swinton at all in Gribben or in the file
here in MTP that contains information on Mark Twain's books and reading
that has turned up since _Mark Twain's Library_ was published. Since the
MTP file is arranged by author, I haven't been able to check for the
titles, but I doubt they're there, either, since the author of whichever
title is findable in GLADIS. (Look, it's the end of Friday at the end of a
hard week. If my sentences are so cattywampus that you can't figure out
what I mean, rewrite them into what you think I might have meant, and then
ask me if you got it right, and I'll tell you. Monday. Or later.)
