Subject: RE: Online Course - Infection Prevention

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

AVSC International, a worldwide reproductive health organization
(www.avsc.org), recently launched its first online course. The subject
is infection prevention.

Infection prevention is an important issue for health care providers and =
their clients; this course will provide detailed information on topics =
such as disease transmission, handwashing, gloving, surgical scrub, =
aseptic technique, sharps, and instrument processing.=20

We are pleased to announce that the first instructor-led version of the =
course will be open to a limited number of preregistered users from May 15 =
through June 15. The course is for health care professionals, especially =
those working in low-resource settings, and is expected to take approximate=
ly 15-20 hours of your time, spread out over the four weeks of the course. =
To get the most out of the course, participants will need access to an =
e-mail account and fairly reliable access to the World Wide Web (a 28.8 =
bps Internet connection is recommended). To sign up for the course, =
participants should send their name, title, institution, and e-mail =
address to me at [log in to unmask]

Lucile James, a registered nurse and expert in infection prevention, will =
act as the online instructor for this course. Ms. James has taught =
infection prevention classes for health care workers in the United States =
and in the developing world. Participants will be communicating with Ms. =
James and with other participants in the course through e-mail and other =
electronic means, and participants will be expected to complete some =
assignments while the course is in progress.=20

This is the first time this online course has been offered: As a pilot =
tester, each participant can help AVSC adapt the course to best meet the =
needs of the global health community. AVSC will ask all participants to =
evaluate and give us feedback about the course. In return for their help, =
AVSC will provide each participant with a small gift.=20

Space in this course is limited. Please encourage your colleagues to sign =
up for the course by replying to this e-mail as soon as possible. In early =
May, we will send a confirmation verifying enrollment in the course, as =
well as more information about the particulars of the course and how it =
will be conducted.=20

For more information about the course and about AVSC's computer-based =
training projects see http://www.avsc.org/ip/about/index.html

We hope to hear from you and your colleagues soon.
