Healthy People 2000 Progress Review on Maternal and Infant Health
A Satellite Broadcast
Wednesday, May 5, 1999 * 2:00-4:00 p.m. EDT

You are invited to participate live in another in the series of Healthy
People 2000 Progress Reviews chaired by Dr. David Satcher, Assistant
Secretary for Health and Surgeon General. He will be joined by invited
experts representing advocacy groups, professional organizations, Federal
agencies, State Title V and local health agencies, health professions
schools and other stakeholders.

Program goals:  To review the progress made on meeting the goals and targets
for the Maternal and Infant Health priority area of Healthy People 2000, and
to enable policy planners, educators, and health care providers to set
priorities and develop strategies for the delivery of key MCH services.
Issues in the development of Healthy People 2010 objectives in the Maternal,
Infant, and Child Health Focus Area will be discussed.

Target audience:  MCH health care providers, State Title V Programs, State
and local health departments, managed care organizations, health professions
organizations, MCH-related private and non-profit organizations, health
professions schools and schools of public health.

Objectives:  As a result of viewing, participants will be able to:      *
Develop strategies to reduce racial/ethnic disparities in key MCH
indicators.
        * Understand current issues surrounding the preconception, prenatal,
and obstetric care objectives.
        * Implement measures and interventions to prevent birth defects and
developmental disabilities such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Neural Tube
Defects.

Co-Convened by:  The Health Resources and Services Administration and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

How to view this program:  Registration is NOT necessary.  Locate a
satellite downlink site with a steerable antenna which can receive either C
or Ku band channels.  Schools, hospitals, community colleges, universities,
and county extension offices have the required equipment.  A telephone or
FAX machine near the viewing room will allow for interaction with the
presenters.
