World Health Day Forum in Halifax

American Health Organization and The WHO/PAHO Collaborating Centre for Health Care
Systems Research and Development, Dalhousie University to a Forum on Active Aging to
mark World Health Day, April 7, 1999, 10.00 a.m. to noon in University Hall,
MacDonald Building, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Moderator: Dr. Thomas Rathwell, Coordinator, Collaborating Centre, and Director of
the School of Health Services Administration, Dalhousie University.

Panel members:  Dr. Barbara Keddy, social gerontologist, Professor and Graduate
Coordinator of Women's Studies, School of Nursing, Dalhousie University; Ms. Marlene
MacLellan, Associate Director, Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, Mount St. Vincent
University; Ms. Valerie White, Coordinator, Senior Citizens' Secretariat for Nova
Scotia; Dr. Jerome Singleton, expert on leisure and aging issues and Professor with
the School of Health and Human Performance, Dalhousie University; Dr. Myrna Slater,

Division of Higher Education and Research Workshop

CSIH's Division of Higher Education and Research will be holding its first workshop
May 7 & 8 in Ottawa. One day will be spent in discussion on Division governance and
structure issues; the other will be spent in small group work for proposal
development. All members and student members are welcome; there will be no

Job Posting - Program Officer at Inter Pares

Inter Pares is looking for a person to join its institutional management team, with
particular program responsibility for Latin America.  Along with organizational
responsibilities, the person will develop and administer programmatic activities with
counterpart organizations in Latin America and in Canada, and develop and implement
strategies to work for justice nationally and internationally through research and
analysis, fundraising, organizing educational events and tours, and policy
development and advocacy.

Qualifications:  Demonstrated commitment to social justice; Programming, management
and financial/administration experience in international development; Experience
working with the popular sectors in Latin America; Experience in building and working
in coalitions; Commitment to collective work; Demonstrated ability to work in a team
and to work without direct supervision; Excellent communication skills, written and
oral, in English, French and Spanish; Demonstrated analytical abilities, and capacity
to think and work strategically; Ability to work irregular hours and to travel;
Computer competence, including word processing and spreadsheets

Salary and conditions:  All members of staff receive the same annual base salary of
$39,049 with a generous benefits package that includes extended health coverage,
RRSP, four weeks annual leave, and dependants allowance.

de la recherche

Le premier atelier de la division de l'enseignement superieur et de la recherche de
la SCSI aura lieu du 7 au 8 mai a Ottawa.  La premiere journee les participants
discuteront la direction et la structure de la division, et la deuxieme journee il y
aura des groupes de discussion sur le developpement d'une proposition de projet.

Inter Pares est a la recherche d'une personne qui se joindra a son equipe de gestion,
avec une responsabilite particuliere pour le travail en Amerique latine.  En plus de
participer a la gestion d'ensemble de l'organisation, la personne devra egalement
developper et gerer un programme d'activites avec des organisations homologues en
Amerique latine et au Canada. L'agente ou l'agent de programme devra egalement
collaborer a l'elaboration de strategies visant a faire avancer la justice et
l'equite au niveau national et international en utilisant divers types d'activites
telles la recherche et l'analyse, la collecte de fonds, l'organisation d'evenements a
caractere educatif et de tournees, la redaction de documents d'analyse et la
representation politique.

Qualites requises:  Etre engage-e activement dans la promotion de la justice sociale;
Experience en programmation, gestion de projets et financiere et administration dans
le domaine du developpement international; Experience de travail avec des groupes
populaires d'Amerique latine; Experience dans la mise sur pied et le travail de
coalitions; Avoir demontre une capacite de travailler en equipe et sans supervision
directe; Excellente capacite de communication ecrite et verbale en francais, anglais
et espagnol; Avoir demontre sa capacite d'analyse et de reflexion strategique; Avoir
la flexibilite de travailler a des heures irregulieres et etre pret-e a voyager;
Maitrise des logiciels courants y compris le traitement de texte et une base de
donnees.

Salaire et conditions:  Tous les membres du personnel d'Inter Pares recoivent le meme
salaire de 39 049 $, de meme que de genereux avantages sociaux comprenant soins de
sante, contribution a un REER, quatre semaines de conge annuel et une allocation pour
personnes a charge.
