Promoting the health of homeless people: setting a research agenda

In October 1996, the Health Education Authority set up ten expert working
groups to look at the potential for health promotion with key vulnerable
population groups. The expert groups were asked to address the following
questions:

- Which health promotion interventions, if any, work to promote the health
and well-being of individuals, families and communities, and to prevent ill
health?

- What are the principle health promotion needs of these groups?

- What are the implications for a new research, development and policy
agenda?

Promoting the health of homeless people: setting a research agenda is the
second in a series of reports emanating from this exploratory research
programme. Dr Robert Power from royal free and University College Medical
School, University of London chaired the group. The report discusses housing
and health, service provision, health promotion needs, approaches to health
promotion, social policy and development programmes and research aproaches.

Health professionals, social researchers, and policy makers will all find
this thought provoking report an invaluable asset in their work and a
stimulus to further research and implementation of the recommendations.
