LEARNER-centered and function as both "diagnostic" and "prescriptive"
tools......would be happy to share more info if desired!

<< Hi, I am from Wellington, New Zealand and interested in health promotion
courses and programs. Recently I managed the Midland Health Evidence-Based
Health Promotion Project "What works in health promotion" and taught health
promotion at university level for quite a few years (US, Canada, NZ), etc.

Right now I am trying to put together a series of short health promotion
modules for some of the regional public health services in the country - at
this point, about 8-10 module of 3-4 hours each. Some of the participants
have had HP training but many of them had none.

Based on a survey, the participants "need/would like most" social
marketing, models and their applications, behavioral change strategies,
ethical issues, facilitations skills, HP funding, HP planning and
evaluation.. they would also like "inspiration and new ideas" + the latest
trends in HP.

Most people said that as a method they use "community development" and
they know the Ottawa Charter inside out. Most also believe that the Treaty of
Waitangi is the MOST important model for New Zealand. The Treaty of Waitangi
was an agreement between Mäori and colonial representatives of the British
Crown signed in 1840. The Treaty, which consists of a preamble, three
articles and a postscript, laid down the ground-rules by which Mäori and
settlers would coexist in New Zealand. One Treaty provision is derived from
each of the three articles. The first article, Kawanatanga, provides for the
right of the government and its agencies to govern. The second, Tino
rangatiratanga, provides for tribes to exercise authority over their affairs.
The third, Oritetanga, provides a guarantee of equity between Mäori
individuals and other New Zealanders.

Do you know of any "wonderful bits and pieces" that I could use in putting
together a program or individual topics that would lend themselves to
training?

What are the latest "hot" topics out there that are worth presenting to a
bunch of keen health promoters who work mostly with the community, schools,
preschools, health professionals and with minorities?

Thanks very much for your help.
