An invitation to express your interest in hosting
the 1999 Ontario Health Promotion Summer School

Background Over the past four years, the Ontario Health Promotion Summer
School has been an important learning vehicle for health promotion
practitioners in Ontario in both official languages.  Offered over a
period of three to five days, the summer school has been developed in
partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health, the University of
Toronto’s Centre for Health Promotion and organizations from various
health and health-related sectors.  From 1994 to 1996, the summer school
was offered in Toronto.  The school moved to Ottawa in 1997, and is now
returning to Toronto in 1998.  It is hoped that the Ontario Health
Promotion Summer School will be offered again outside Toronto in 1999.
This move enhances the summer school’s accessibility and injects a
regional flavour to the proceedings.     

Criteria for hosting the 1999 edition The Centre for Health Promotion is
currently exploring possible locations for the 1999 edition of the
summer school.  The following criteria will be used to select the
appropriate site: 
*       ability to bring together a local group of organizations to
spearhead the project.  The host site does not assume financial
responsibility; rather, it provides logistical support and networking
capacity on a local level; 
*       ability to establish a province-wide multisectoral committee to
oversee the planning of this event (one for the Francophone stream of
the event, and one for the Anglophone stream); 
*       local capacity (e.g., conference facilities, accommodations) to
hold the event for approximately 200 people over 4-5 days, in June 1999 
*       reasonably-sized Francophone population residing in the area.  
*       In return, the Centre for Health Promotion commits to securing
funds to support the planning of the event and recognizing the host’s
contribution (e.g., recognition in the promotional and participant
materials).   

The Centre for Health Promotion invites interested parties to express
their interest in writing to Irving Rootman no later than January 25th,
1998.  Selection will be made shortly thereafter.  Only the chosen

Historique Offert une fois l’an depuis 1994, le Cours d’été en promotion
de la santé de l’Ontario permet aux intervenants francophones et
anglophones de s’outiller afin d’oeuvrer efficacement dans le domaine de
la promotion de la santé.  Offert sur une période de deux à quatre
jours, la composante francophone du Cours d’été en promotion de la santé
a été élaborée en collaboration avec le ministère ontarien de la Santé,
le Centre for Health Promotion de l’université de Toronto et divers
organismes provenant de divers secteurs rattachés à la santé.  Le cours
d’été a eu lieu à Toronto de 1994 à 1996.  En 1997, le cours d’été s’est
déroulé à Ottawa.  Le cours d’été sera offert de nouveau à Toronto en
1998.  On espère offrir le Cours d’été en promotion de la santé de
l’Ontario à l’extérieur de Toronto en 1999. Ce déplacement rend le cours
d’été davantage accessible et permet d’y ajouter un cachet régional.   


Critères pour accueillir l’édition 1999 Le Centre for Health Promotion
est présentement à la recherche de lieux potentiels pour l’édition 1999
du cours d’été.  Les critères suivants seront utilisés pour choisir le
lieu approprié : 
*       capacité de rassembler un groupe local d’organismes pour diriger
le projet.  Le parrain n’assume pas la responsabilité financière du
cours.  Plutôt, il apporte un soutien d’ordre logistique et une capacité
de réseautage sur le plan local. 
*       capacité d’établir un comité provincial et multisectorel pour
voir à la planification de l’événement (soit un comité pour le volet
francophone et un comité pour le volet anglophone); 
*       capacité locale de tenir un événement (p.ex. installations,
hébergement) pour approximativement 200 personnes sur quatre à cinq
jours, en juin 1999 
*       un nombre raisonnable de Francophones demeurant dans la région.


En retour, le Centre for Health Promotion s’engage à trouver les fonds
qui permettront de planifier l’événement et à reconnaître la
contribution du parrain (p.ex., reconnaissance dans les matériaux
promotionnels ainsi que la trousse des participants).  Le Centre for
Health Promotion invite ceux qui s’intéressent à cette offre de faire
part de leur intérêt par écrit à Irving Rootman au plus tard le 25
janvier 1998.  La sélection s’effectuera par la suite.  Seul le candidat
