Former CSIH Board Member wins 1997 GlaxoWellcome Fellowship Award

The Canadian Society for International Health congratulates Dr. Azim Jiwani
of Burnaby, B.C. for winning one of the 1997 GlaxoWellcome Fellowship Awards.
Dr. Azim Jiwani is a current CSIH member and a former CSIH Board Member. The
Fellowship Award is but one of the many prizes which the College of Family
Physicians of Canada (CFPC) awards each year to recognize the efforts and
contributions made by Canada's outstanding family doctors.

Post Title: Information Systems Specialist; Level: P.2; Post Number: .5841;
Duty Station: Washington, D.C.; Tenure: Two years, first year
probationary period; Division/Program/Office: Publications and Editorial
Services (DBI).

Basic Salary: $33,701 at single rate; $35,921 with primary dependents
(per annum net of taxes). Post Adjustment: $7,785 at single rate;
$8,298 with primary dependents (per annum net of taxes).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:  University degree in computer science, management, liberal arts
or a field related to the management of electronic information systems.
Experience: Five years of experience at the national level or three
years at the international level in electronic information communication,
including experience in information networking, text-based databases, Internet
and Intranet applications.
Languages:  Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working
knowledge of the other.

Basic Salary: $48,019 at single rate; $51,597 with primary dependents (per
annum net of taxes). Post Adjustment: $9,604 at single rate; $10,319
with primary dependents (per annum net of taxes). Hardship/Mobility: $2,145
at single rate; $2,860 with primary dependents (per annum net of taxes).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:  Bachelor of science degree in sanitary, environmental or civil
engineering or environmental sciences (biology or ecology), with a Master's
degree in public health, sanitary or environmental engineering or environmental
sciences (biology or ecology).
Experience:  At national level: Seven years of progressively more responsible
experience in positions in public health and/or environmental health,
workers' health, water supply and sanitation, or promotion and protection of
environmental quality.
At international level:  Two years of participation in technical cooperation
programs and activities in health and the environment in developing
countries of the region.
Languages:  Very good knowledge of Spanish with a working knowledge of English.

Canadian School Boards Association publishes resource book on anaphylaxis
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Canadian School Boards Association, in partnership with Health Canada,
has produced a handbook entitled "Anaphylaxis: A Handbook for School Boards".
The handbook provides background information required to develop policies
to handle life-threatening allergies in schools. Copies are available for

Second European Region Conference of the Commonwealth Nurses Federation
issues call for abstracts

The Second European Region Conference of the Commonwealth Nurses Federation
will be held March 27-29, 1997 in St. Julians, Malta. The theme is "Moving
nursing forward: Affirming our right to care". The European Scientific
Committee invites all nurses with an interest in sharing their skills,
knowledge and views with a European Commonwealth audience to submit an
abstract before September 30, 1997. The abstract should fall into one of the
following categories: evaluating care, evidence based nursing, developing nursing
leadership; innovations in clinical practice; learning and teaching new skills;
education and lifelong professional development, and nursing research.
