Dear Health Promotion members,

While I have been away more than at my office this summer, I am motivated
to respond to the question of what is health promotion? My life's work is
devoted to improving care for pregnant mothers and their newborns. It is my
observation that modern medicine has made the care of both into illness when
promoting practices that are closer to "normal" body reactions actually
prevents problems. Therefore, my current work is with services to reduce
technology and increase mother participation thus preventing cesarean and
promoting breastfeeding, for example.

With recent research that breastfeeding reduces the incidence of diabetes,
there is reinforcement for my work as HEALTH PROMOTION. There is my idea of
health promotion - thanks.
