Hello All,

I thought I would pass on this interesting posting from the Self-Help
research listserv. The folks below are conducting an online survey of
people who have engaged in online self-help. If you know of anyone that
has engaged in online self-help or have done so personally, take a look
below for details about the survey. It's a very worthwhile field were
little research has been done on the impact of it, so take a moment to check
it out.

> Your list has been selected at random for inclusion in a study of the
value of online self help groups. I am asking you, the list owner, to
please post the following message to your group. If you choose to do so,
please let me know. If I do not hear from you, I will assume that you
decided not to post this to the list. Thank you very much for you
consideration in this matter.

> Hi. I am a member of several email self-help groups. Many
hundreds of email self-help groups currently exist on the Internet, but
little is known about the potential benefits or negatives for people who use
these groups. I am hoping to learn more about this issue and I have
developed a website questionnaire about online self-help group experiences.
> I am asking members of randomly selected email self-help groups to
answer some short and quick survey questions. In return, I am offering a
free optical illusion program. This small program generates a swirling
pattern of black and white circles on your computer screen. After you watch
it for a minute, when you look away, things look very strange for a moment.
I am sure you will enjoy this visual trick, and you may feel free to share
it with friends.
> This is my dissertation research for an accredited doctoral
program. It is an academic project, not connected with any commercial
venture. Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, in Palo Alto, CA, has
approved this research. The first web page is a consent to participate form
that gives detailed contact information for the researchers involved.
> Please go to http://www.concentric.net/~astorm/diss to answer the
questions and then download this optical illusion. Thank you very much,
