The following are upcoming health promotion employment opportunities:

                PART-TIME HEALTH PROMOTER -
                NUTRITION/PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROMOTION
                REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF NIAGARA

         PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT - HEALTHY LIFESTYLES PROGRAM

The Regional Municipality of Niagara is accepting applications from
qualified individuals for the position of part- time Health Promoter -
Nutrition/Physical Activity Promotion (21 hours per week).  Under the
direction of the Manager, Healthy Lifestyles, the Health Promoter is
responsible for activities that will facilitate improvement in the
nutritional health and increase the physical activity of Niagara
residents.  This includes the operational planning, implementation and
evaluation of the two Mandatory Programs - Nutrition Promotion and
Physical Activity Promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS

        A baccalaureate degree in foods and nutrition or equivalent from a
recognized university and completion of a one-year accredited dietetic
internship.  A community internship (Concentration D) is preferred.
        One to two years experience in community nutrition is required.
        Must possess experience in community needs assessment and program
planning/evaluation.
        Registration by the College of Dietitians is required.
        Experience in working with physical activity promotion issues is
preferred.
        Must demonstrate a genuine interest and positive attitude toward
physical activity.
        Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
        Experience in computer applications is required.
        Skills in the following areas are required: Motivation and empowerment
skills, strong initiative and excellent communication (oral and written)
skills.
        Knowledge and skills in at least three of the following health
promotion strategies are required: Community mobilization, policy
development, mass communications, social marketing, behaviour change and
advocacy.

SALARY RANGE:  $19.70 - $23.84 per hour in addition to a comprehensive
benefit package.

This temporary position is responsible for activities that will
facilitate public safety/injury prevention in the Niagara population
including the operational planning, implementation and evaluation of the
Public Health Department's Public Safety/Injury Prevention Program.  The
expected duration of this position is until December 31, 1997.

Qualifications: A baccalaureate degree in health studies/science or
related discipline.

Experience:  Two years experience working in community-based health
promotion required; must possess experience in community needs
assessment and program planning/evaluation; experience in working with
public safety/injury prevention issues is preferred; proven ability to
work within a multidisciplinary team; experience in computer
applications is required.  Other skills in the following areas are
required: motivation and empowerment skills, strong initiative and
excellent communication (oral and written) skills.  Knowledge and skills
in at least three of the following health promotion strategies are
required: community mobilization, policy development, mass
communications, social marketing, behaviour change and advocacy.

Special Conditions: Must provide own transportation and be able to
travel throughout the Niagara Region to various locations.

Salary: $35,856 to $43,394 plus a comprehensive benefit program.
