PROJECT COORDINATOR POSITION
Concerned Friends of Ontario Citizens in Care Facilities and the Self-Help Resource Centre are
seeking a Project Coordinator for a collaborative project - "Supporting the Promotion and
Development of Family Councils in Long-Term Care Facilities".
The Objectives of the Project are to:
- Improve the quality of life of cognitively impaired residents living in long-term care facilities
- Provide family members of residents with a means of mutual support
- Provide concerned parties with a mechanism to influence the facility; and
- Create dialogue between family members, facility staff and management concerning the interest
of the residents.
Responsibilities:
- Working with an Advisory Committee, this person will:
- Research current information on Family Councils
- Promote Family Councils to families, facilities, government, general public, media and other
relevant agencies.
- Conduct information sessions/workshops for family members and staff
- Develop 4-6 family councils in varied settings
- Create appropriate tools (manual, guidelines, etc.)
- Prepare final report
- Research and secure funding for Family Council Network
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of the Long Term Care system
- Comprehensive understanding of seniors'/aging issues
- Recognition of importance of empowering residents and families
- Excellent communication skills
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Advocacy/mediation/negotiation skills
- Ability to lead groups/facilitate workshops
- Community development background
- Experiential knowledge of self-help strategies
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Ontario
This is a part-time contract position for a one year period with the possibility of renewal.
