JOB POSTING: Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) Officer
Working with the Yunnan (China) Maternal and Child Health Project
(Funded by Canadian International Development Agency)

   Working directly with both Canadian and Chinese Executing Agencies, the
PME Officer will build on the project's well-established participatory
training methodology to bring participatory approaches to monitoring and
evaluation.

   The PME Officer will work with the project team to implement the process
of PME and identify the value-added for daily project decision-making and
results-based management. This position is based in Ottawa with periodic
travel to China to facilitate pilot testing of PME initiatives and PME
training for grassroots health workers.

Required Skills and Experience:
* Ability to develop data collection tools and interview schedules,
analysis of  both qualitative and quantitative data, report writing
* Knowledge of and experience with participatory monitoring and evaluation
* Familiarity with PME tools, and application of findings to project
decision-making and management
* Solid understanding of the principles of participatory research and
community development
* Strong sense of cooperation and cross-cultural awareness
* Demonstrated ability to provide training and mentorship in a
cross-cultural situation
* A hands-on, team-based approach within the workplace
* Fluency in English
* Overseas experience in developing country

Assets:
* Fluency in Mandarin
* Familiarity with CIDA's Results-Based Management
* Field experience in international maternal and child health

This is a part-time position, with the possibility of adding on a part-time
position in the Community Health Research Unit.
