FIRST NOTICE

INTERNATIONAL HEALTH CAREER CONFERENCE
MCGILL UNIVERSITY, MONTREAL, CANADA
MCINTYRE MEDICAL BUILDING
SATURDAY, APRIL 1, 1995

Hello everyone,

This is to announce a conference co-organized by the Osler Medical
Aid Foundation (OMAF), the Medical Students for Social
Responsibility (MSSR), and the McGill Students International
Development Initiative (MSIDI), three McGill University student
groups with interests in international health issues.

The successful IHEP conference hosted by OSHI (Ottawa Students'
Health Initiative) in late October of 1994, followed by the strong
student presence at the First Canadian Conference on International
Health in early November, have shown that students can and must
play an important role in the growing field of international
health. The aim of the conference will be to expose the position
students now hold in this field, and how their influence could be
strengthened. Speakers from different levels of intervention
(government, NGO, physician, and student) will address what they
feel is and should be the student's role in global health
development. Furthermore, tables will be made available to
interested NGOs and student groups, in order to try and provide
motivation and direction to the student contemplating a career in
international health. Finally, several workshops are being
prepared, which will focus on some more pragmatic issues such as
finding funding sources for health electives in the so-called
"developing" world.

Student leaders from across Canada and beyond should see this
meeting as a ideal opportunity to continue their recent efforts in
improving student group networking and cooperation. Furthermore, it
is our hope that health educators and workers will also find it an
opportunity to convey their experience and views to the student
body.

Thank you for your interest. We would very much appreciate
receiving word of your intention to attend the conference, as well
as your willingness to participate in any of the above sessions.

To Health,
