Global Health in a Shifting World Economy - call for abstracts
deadline extended to May 30th!
19th Annual Canadian Conference on Global Health
Ottawa, Canada - October 21-23, 2012
The Canadian Society for International Health invites you to submit an
abstract for the 2012 Canadian Conference on Global Health - the
deadline is May 15th! Abstracts for oral and poster presentations and
for workshops or symposia are welcome from researchers and students.
The theme "Global Health in a Shifting World Economy" will
specifically be examining the:
* The growing economic crisis in Europe and the impact on social
welfare programs;
* Private/public partnerships;
* Economic growth with growing inequities in health;
* The role of state capitalism and the infusion of development aid;
* Existing and evolving global inequities in health and their expected
and unexpected impacts on the world's marginalized and vulnerable
populations, including indigenous groups.
Plenary sessions and topic-focused symposia will be followed by
workshops, special sessions, and oral and poster sessions to help
facilitate knowledge dissemination in areas of global shifts in the
economy and global health equity in local, national, and global
contexts.
Abstracts
Submissions should be directly related to the overall theme "Global
health in the shifting world economy" and suggested topic areas are:
* Shifting demographics and the disease burden
* Employment, workers rights and migration in health in the shifting
world economy
* Sustainable environments in the shifting world economy
* Training, service delivery and health human resources in the
shifting world economy
* Democratization of development in the shifting world economy
* Ethics of development in the shifting world economy
* Access to healthcare and medicines in the shifting world economy
* Global health education in the shifting world economy
* Global health research in the shifting world economy
Abstracts may focus on new findings, the development of a program,
project or new global health tools, moving from development to
implementation, policy or ethical issues, or related topics.
Call for special presentations: Canada's ability to respond
Given the economic realities of today and its impacts on our shifting
global markets, perhaps now more than ever, we need to work together,
share what we know, and collaborate.
As part of a new initiative, the Canadian Conference on Global Health
will be presenting a special session, Canada's ability to respond, on
Sunday, October 21st. Canada's ability to respond will engage
presenters and participants to examine and discuss Canada's capacity,
in partnership with the global South, to respond to global health
development and research needs worldwide. To this end, CSIH has
prepared an information collection template to assist with the
categorization of global health programs, projects, and research
taking place in Canada and internationally. If you would like to
present your work in this special session, please complete the
template.
