INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP FOR HEALTH SYSTEMS RESEARCHERS

April 25th - May 28th, 2014 in Kisumu, Kenya

A unique, intensive training opportunity for researchers to launch their
research careers and network internationally! 

 

PROGRAM LEADERS AND PRESENTERS: 

* Dan Kaseje, Professor and Vice- Chancellor, Great Lakes University of
Kisumu, Kenya 

* Nancy Edwards, Professor, School of Nursing and Department of Epidemiology
and Community Medicine, University of Ottawa, Canada 

*Other prominent academics and researchers from Eastern and South African
regions

 

INTERNSHIP FOCUS:

. Health systems research. 

. Innovative research methods (Mixed methods) 

. Linking research to policy. 

. Developing research networks. 

. Networking with local, national, and international decision-makers. 

. Working with interdisciplinary teams. 

. Innovative research capacity building. 

. Developing programs of research. 

. Mentorship. 

 

Participants will work under the mentorship of local and international
facilitators. 

During the internship, participants will: 

*Acquire knowledge and skills in health systems research. 

*Examine multiple intervention programs design and evaluation issues in
health systems. 

*Acquire knowledge and skills essential for competitive grantsmanship. 

*Acquire knowledge and skills in networking and extend links with local,
national, and international decision-makers. 

*Extend repertoire of cutting edge research designs and approaches in health
systems. 

* Enhance peer review skills 

*Develop a complete research proposal, programs of research and/or
scientific manuscript and paper during work in progress sessions. 

* Attend the three-day International conference organized by the Great Lakes
University of Kisumu with opportunity to present a conference paper. 

 

ELIGIBILITY: 

* Graduate-prepared (minimum completed masters' degree at time of
application) in health sciences, public health, community health,
epidemiology, or other related disciplines 

* Focus on Health systems or community health research 

* Interest in international collaboration 

* Committed to long-term research engagement and providing tangible benefits
to home institution/country 

 

PROGRAM FEE 

. Applicants from within Kisumu: Ksh 80,000 (Includes: lunch, refreshments,
all sessions, and course materials) 

. Local applicants from outside Kisumu (Full Package): Ksh. 140,000
(Includes: accommodation, lunch, dinner, refreshments, airport shuttle, all
sessions and course materials) 

. Other International Countries (Full Package): USD 3,000 (Includes:
accommodation, lunch, dinner, refreshments, airport shuttle, all sessions,
and course materials. 

PLEASE NOTE: Travel costs (flights and personal travel) and weekend catering
(lunch & dinner) are not included in the program fee.
