10th CANADIAN CONFERENCE ON INTERNATIONAL HEALTH: APRIL 30 IS THE
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION!

The deadline for submitting abstracts for the 10th Canadian Conference
on International Health is April 30! The theme for this year's
conference is: "The Right to Health: Influencing the Global Agenda.  How
Research, Advocacy and Action can shape our future."  For more

HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS FOR CHILDREN: WORLD HEALTH DAY APRIL 7

Every child has the right to grow up in a healthy environment - to live,
learn and play in healthy places. Acting to safeguard children’s
environments can save millions of lives, reduce disease and provide a
safer, healthier world for our children’s future. The biggest threats to
children’s health lurk in the very places that should be safest - home,
school and community. Dangers such as contaminated water, polluted air,
lack of basic sanitation, disease-bearing insects and chemical hazards
present health risks that disproportionally affect children and cause a
huge and unnecessary toll of disease and death. Yet this suffering is
not inevitable. There are solutions. Most of the environment-related
diseases and deaths can be prevented using effective, low-cost and

CANADA COMMITS $100 MILLION FOR HUMANITARIAN AID FOR PEOPLE OF IRAQ

Minister for International Cooperation Susan Whelan has announced that
Canada, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA),
has committed $100 million in humanitarian assistance for the people of
Iraq. "There will be an immediate allocation of $20 million to UN
humanitarian agencies, the Red Cross and to CARE Canada. This funding
will help to ensure that war-affected Iraqis have access to clean water
and proper sanitation, food and shelter and primary health care," said

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO SUMMER SCHOOL: UNDERSTANDING THE NEW WORLD OF
HEALTH CARE

"Understanding the New World of Health Care" is a six-day program
designed to help health care executives, clinicians and policy makers
affect change and recapture the drive necessary to ensure
patient-focused care. Program themes include: Redesigning for
Patient-Focused Care; Analyzing the Macro Environment; Innovation in
Health Care; and Managing Relationships with the Media. The course runs
from June 15-20, 2003.  Applications should be submitted by May 30.  For

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA SUMMER INSTITUTE

The University of Victoria will be holding a summer institute called
"Strengthening Communities While Reorienting Health Services & Building
Healthy Public Policy: Creating Conditions for Health."  The objectives
of the course are as follows:

1.      To discuss key issues and concepts inherent in the complex
relationships among communities, health systems and policy development.
2.      To explore strategies for linking policy, practice and research.
3.      To engage in critical debates with national scholars and the
public.
4.      To examine strategies, methodologies and frameworks for change.

ORGANIZATION FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT: FORUM 2003

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development will be
holding its 2003 Forum in Paris, France, April 28-29.  One of the hot

The International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) is an
