I work for a public health unit, Toi Te Ora Public Health (TTO), in Rotorua,
New Zealand. Our organisation has created a "Public Health Overseas
Experience" (OE) which is an opportunity for staff to gain relevant
experience by working alongside a colleague in a related field in another
country. The opportunity may be reciprocated with the international
colleague being invited to work alongside the staff member in New Zealand
(if they are interested). The organisation will subsidise the trip for the
staff member, and if an international colleague is interested in coming to
NZ then that staff member will host them at their home. So what it boils
down to is a free worker for 1-3 months, and free room and board in NZ for
the same period of time.

My role within TTO is largely related to health promotion planning and
evaluation, as well as public health unit strategic planning. However, we
are also looking at getting more involved in working with local councils to
undertake Health Impact Assessments.

I am interested in applying for a Public Health OE in Canada - preferably in
Ottawa or Kingston. If anyone works in a similar role, or knows of anyone
who does, and is interested in exploring this opportunity please let me know
and I can provide more information. It's a great opportunity to learn how
public health units function down here and for a free place to stay while
exploring a really neat country!

Hali
