Dear colleagues,
We invite you to the webinar: LGBTQ+ Newcomer Youth Experiences: Mental health impacts and effective support, on Wed., Dec. 7, 2016, 12-1pm (EST).

Newcomer youth, including refugee youth, who identify as LGBTQ+ may have unique needs during their resettlement in Canada. They may also face particular challenges that affect their mental health. Service providers should be aware of how to support these youth in a sensitive and effective manner.

Join us as presenters Elvia Maria Peñate, Community worker and Adanyi Phillip, Settlement worker, both from the Griffin Centre explore the settlement experiences of LGBTQ+ newcomer youth. We will explore the intersectionality of homophobia, racism and xenophobia that LGBTQ+ newcomer youth may face when they arrive in Canada and the barriers this creates for them. We will also discuss how this affects the mental health and well-being of the youth. Webinar participants will gain a better awareness of key issues to help them support the needs of LGBTQ+ newcomer youth.

To register, please visit the Refugee Mental Health Project<https://www.porticonetwork.ca/web/rmhp/participate/webinar-series> webinar series page.

A 30 minute presentation will be followed by a 30 minute Q & A period.

This webinar is presented as part of the CAMH Refugee Mental Health Project. For more information about the RMHP, visit our website<https://www.porticonetwork.ca/web/rmhp> or contact us at: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
