"Indicators of Sexual Health Among Canadian Youth: What Does the Research
Data Tell Us?"

This presentation will provide an overview of the most recent data and
longer term trends for key indicators of sexual health among Canadian youth.
These include rates of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection as
well as sexual behaviour (e.g., first intercourse, number of sexual
partners, oral sex, patterns of contraceptive and condom use). These data
and trends will provide the basis for the identification of priorities for
sexual health promotion and future research that is needed to assess
adolescent sexual health beyond a traditional focus on the prevention of
negative outcomes.

 

 

 

Alexander McKay, Ph.D. is Research Coordinator for the Sex Information and
Education Council of Canada (www.sieccan.org <http://www.sieccan.org/> ) and
Associate Editor of The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality. He is on the
editorial board of the journal Sex Education and the International Journal
of Sexual Health. He is Associate Editor of the recently released World
Association for Sexual Health Sexual Health for the Millennium: A
Declaration and Technical Document (www.worldsexology.org
<http://www.worldsexology.org/> ). He acted as a consultant to the Toronto
Public Health Taking Action on Chlamydia campaign and teaches a course on
human sexuality for Ryerson Continuing Education.
