SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE/RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
IN HEALTH PROMOTION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates with
experience in health promotion research and practice for a post
designed to underpin the implementation of the Newcastle
Faculty of Medicine Health Policy Initiative - a novel health
promotion strategy designed to create a "health promoting
medical school".  The post will be based in the Department of
Epidemiology & Public Health and supervised by Dr Martin White,
Senior Lecturer in Public Health.  The initiative forms part of
a growing programme of health promotion research within the
University.

You will have extensive practical experience of health
promotion, and research training and experience in both
qualitative and quantitative methods.  A postgraduate degree or
diploma is desirable.  You will:
*     support the implementation of the Faculty of Medicine Health
Policy Initiative with an academically sound approach,
particularly in research-based policy development,
implementation of effective interventions, and evaluation of
the initiative;
*     achieve wide dissemination of the Health Policy Initiative
through presentation and publication of the outcomes and
principles derived;
*     develop applications for funding for both health policy
interventions and original research in health promotion;
*     undertake original research in the field of health promotion;
*     contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
programmes.

In addition, you will support and contribute to the development
of a multidisciplinary, cross-departmental Health Promotion
Research Group.

The post is tenable for three years and is offered full-time
but part-time work or job-sharing may be possible.  Newcastle
University is an equal opportunities employer.  Commencing
salary will be up to stlg19,848 p.a. on either the Grade 1A salary
scale (stlg13,417 to stlg21,519 p.a.) or the Grade II salary scale
(stlg19,848 to stlg26,430 p.a.) depending upon qualifications and
experience.
