Family doctor, former vice-chair of CDM and former leader of the opposition in Saskatchewan, Dr. Ryan Meili, has written a new book, A Healthy Future: Lessons from the Frontlines of a Crisis<http://www.ubcpress.ca/a-healthy-future>. Along with pointing out the ways in which COVID revealed the ongoing problems in health care and social programs in Canada, A Healthy Future points out important lessons we can learn from the pandemic experience. These ideas are richly illustrated with stories of Saskatchewan patients and Ryan's observations from the halls of legislature and hospital. You can see an excerpt of the book in this month's CCPA Monitor<https://policyalternatives.ca/publications/monitor/monitor-septemberoctober-2023>.

The book, which will be of interest to anyone who cares about the future of health and health care in Canada, is available in stores October 1st, and Ryan has upcoming book launches in Toronto<https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/dais-talks-a-healthy-future-with-ryan-meili-and-danielle-martin-tickets-718694182647?aff=oddtdtcreator> (with Dr. Danielle Martin, Sept 26, 7PM, Dais Institute, 20 Dundas Street) Ottawa<https://www.facebook.com/events/316805750999474/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A%5b%7B%22extra_data%22%3A%22%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22unknown%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22home%22%7D%2C%7B%22extra_data%22%3A%22%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22left_rail%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22bookmark%22%7D%2C%7B%22extra_data%22%3A%22%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22surface%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22create_dialog%22%7D%5d%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D> (with Dr. Danyaal Raza, Sept 27, 7PM WUSC building, 1404 Scott St) and Kingston<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=O8se1rE41UKCxO-yg4uSXD4wgHHn7F1Bp4dYk3R1nvRUNUYzWEdWSkVIQTBCNVQyUk5BQlFTTlk5Ti4u> (with Dr. Jane Philpott, Sept. 28, 3 PM, Robert Sutherland Hall, Queen's University). Ryan has also started a new Substack newsletter on health and politics: A Larger Scale<http://www.ryanmeili.substack.com/>. Drawing on his experiences in politics and his medical practice in the inner city, Far North and Global South, he explores the ways in which political choices affect our health. I highly recommend checking it out the launch events, book, and Substack and engaging in this important discussion about how we build a healthy future.
