community-academic partnerships.

The Wellesley Urban Health Seminar Series

Launched in 2003, the Wellesley Urban Health Seminar Series brings North
America’s leading innovators in urban health research to Toronto.

Promoting Health Through Partnerships
Bridging the Academic-Community Divide

Based in Seattle, Washington, Community-Campus Partnerships for Health
(CCPH) is widely recognized as a leader in collaborative approaches to
promoting health.  Since 1996 (and with its network of over 1000 communities
and campuses throughout the United States), CCPH’s mission is  to promote
health through service-learning, community-based research, community service
and other partnership strategies. These partnerships are powerful tools for
improving health professional education, civic responsibility, the relevance
of research, and the overall health of communities.

Meet key CCPH team members as they discuss, “authentic partnerships between
communities and academic institutions, community-based research (CBR), and
the contributions that partnerships can make to understanding and addressing
public health concerns.”

Presenters:
Sarena D. Seifer, MD, Executive Director, CCPH
•       Dr. Seifer’s research focuses on the principles and best practices of
partnerships between communities and academic institutions in relation to
education, research, and community/economic development.

Elmer R. Freeman, MSW, PhD (candidate) Chairperson Elect, Board of
Directors, CCPH
•       Mr. Freeman is Executive Director of the Center for Community Health
Education Research & Service, Inc. in Boston and an Adjunct Professor at
Northeastern University.  His areas of interest are in public health policy,
disparities in health status of minority populations, health care reform,
and community social and economic development.

This complementary presentation is open to all interested in partnership
approaches to health.
