a consequence of how we learn, live and work"

25 February 2004 - Today the Canadian Population Health Initiative (CPHI)
releases Improving the Health of Canadians 2004.

This new report synthesizes a wide range of evidence on the determinants of
health, including previously unpublished research commissioned by CPHI.
This new report is intended to build awareness of population health
issues,
create opportunities for knowledge exchange and generate policy debate and
dialogue.

The report focuses on four themes: income and health, early childhood
development, Aboriginal Peoples' health, and obesity. These themes reflect
four different perspectives on population health: core determinants of
health, the life course, the experience of different population groups, and
the variety of health conditions that exist. For each theme, the report
summarizes the best available evidence on health determinants, discusses
the
policy experience and identifies gaps in knowledge.

The CPHI is a program of the Canadian Institute for Health Information
(CIHI). The report is available for downloading free of charge from
www.cihi.ca/ihc2004 <http://www.cihi.ca/ihc2004>.
