Public Health-Seattle & King County has arranged for a presentation on
school readiness assessment and action at the community level by Dr. Clyde
Hertzman, University of British Columbia:

This is an opportunity to hear first-hand from the person who is
responsible
for the implemention of school readiness assessment using the Early
Development Instrument (EDI), throughout school districts in the province
of
British Columbia.  In light of the proposed pilot survey here in King
County
school districts, also using the EDI, this will be a rare chance to see the
EDI results mapped and fully interprreted, and to gain a sense for the
benefit of providing this type of information to communities and school
districts.  Plenty of time will be devoted to questions from people
attending.

Dr. Hertzman is full professor in the Department and Associate Director of
the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research.  Nationally, he is a
Lawson Fellow of both the Population Health Program and the Human
Development Program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
Through the Institute, he has played a central role in developing the
conceptual framework for the "determinants of health" and elucidating the
special role of early childhood development as one of those key
determinants.

We are inviting key local and state level educators, assessment experts,
and
early childhood development advocates.  We hope you will attend to help us
think through the significance and best means of assessing school readiness
at the community level.
