This past spring, while visiting our former Hannibal stomping
grounds, we made a return pilgrimage to the Mark Twain Birthplace
State Historic Site in Florida, where we were warmly greeted by
the personable John Huffman, whom we had not seen since the
Elmira conference.

He spent quite a bit of time giving us a private tour of the
facility and sharing his considerable knowledge of the local
history. In addition to the Mark Twain artifacts enumerated by
Bob Slotta, the Birthplace Shrine also houses a nice research
library and, under the editorship of Dr. Carolyn Kane of
Culver-Stockton College, publishes "The Twainian," a scholarly
newsletter, which in recent months has carried articles by Mark
Twain Forum members.

Florida is well worth the drive and rewards those who make the
effort.
