For India I can point you towards a new book called 'The Indian Equator: Mark Twain's India Revisited', mostly because I wrote it myself! It's the second part of a Mark Twain travel trilogy. It follows in his exact footsteps around India and Pakistan.

Actually I'm replying from Hawaii as I'm halfway through a book launch tour of the western US states sponsored by the English Speaking Union.
