At least the teachers and most readers of the "new" HF will know that 
the text has been altered. I tripped over this URL 
http://www.oldfashionedamericanhumor.com/mark-twains-nevada-funeral.html 
this afternoon and saw that it had been altered without being identified 
as such. For example:

    ".....Here once when the Catholics got to throwing stones through
    the Methodist Sunday school windows ..."
    "....six plumes on the hearse, and a driver on the box in a boiled
    shirt and a plug hat...."

I think that bothers me even more.
