For those of you with an interest in David Fears’ “Mark Twain Day By
Day”, I’ve been working at incorporating it into my “Twain’s Geography”
project.  This was recommended to me during the Roughing It conference
in Elmira back in ‘21 and it seemed a good fit as I had been unable to
develop a suitable time-line, on my own.  I had already included
selected entries of geographic interest, in fact Mr. Fears had sent me
pdfs for different periods, particularly those related to railroad
travels.  As I write this I’ve created entries for all dates from the
first two volumes and most of the last two.
Visitors to Twain’s Geography can access these records in a number of
ways.  Along the top menu bar is the tab “DBD Dates”.  This option
provides a screen for entering a range of dates.  This will create a
scrolling list of entries.  A second method of access is a menu box at
the top left side titled “Day By Day Volumes”. There are four expanding
options, one for each volume.
The original method of access to Day By Day entries are URLs in the
upper right corner of pages categorized as Epochs, Episodes and some
Chapters.  These URLs open scrolling lists of dates relevant to pages
they are found on.  As Day By Day entries are part of Twain’s Geography,
their content, along with the rest of the site, have been indexed by
Drupal, consequently using the site’s “search” option will find them.
Each of the Day By Day dates is in a unique node, with the exception of
a few that I chose to combine into single dates (node is a Drupal
term).  I do hope that what I’ve been doing meets with the approval of
the Center for Mark Twain Studies, as they own the rights to “Mark Twain
Day By Day”.  Besides being of utility to my own work, I hope my version
of David Fears’ work will provide greater facility and ease of use to
researchers.
I don’t pretend to claim that there is any original material in either
Fears’ work or my own.  And, there is little of what might be termed
literary analysis.  What I do think is that we  have provided a guide
book through the life and times of Samuel L. Clemens aka Mark Twain.
I’m aware that there is criticism of Fears’ work.  I would like to
provide an opportunity for those that care to provide feedback on the
material, both Fears’ as well as my own.  Given the nature of the
internet these days, such an opportunity can be granted only to
registered users of this site.  There is no cost involved but I do need
a valid email address and I prefer users use their real names.  Twain’s
Geography is “ad-free” with no commercial ties.  I did try using Adsense
ads for a time to help defray the expense of running this site, but
these provided no income – and I didn’t like their appearance.
